Something I Wrote was a part-documentary, part-musical inspired by the writings of singer-songwriter, academic and educator Azmyl Yunor. This devised performance traced his journeys, observations, and creative and critical choices through the changing Malaysian socio-cultural landscape since the late 1990s.
Something I wrote highlighted the diverse body of Azmyl’s writings – from the distinctive urban characters, stories and scenarios that populate his songs; to the analysis of Malaysian culture, media and society in his academic output; to the many interviews documented over his music career. These served to pose thought-provoking questions, images and sounds to audiences about the city, identity, independence and difference.
