ReformARTsi Workshops

ReformARTsi

Five Arts Centre served as the Secretariat for ReformARTsi, a coalition of companies, practitioners and academics who have come together to build consensus on specific reforms and policy changes for the performing arts, and to jointly advocate these changes to the government.

ReformARTsi currently represents 117 members and 55 arts groups. In 2019, alongside its research, mapping and advocacy work, the coalition organised several events, including:

  1. Advocacy Workshop by Ivy Josiah (20 April 2019). Focusing on advocacy, policy change and reforms in the arts, using examples and strategies by civil society in engaging ministries, the Attorney General’s Chambers, Parliament, media, and the public.
  2. Know Your Rights! Workshop by Syahredzan Johan (20 July 2019). Educating the arts community about legal frameworks when presenting work – how to deal with authorities, responding to complaints/police reports, the roles, responsibilities and limitations of enforcement agencies, and Freedom of Expression provisions in the Constitution.
  3. Focus Group Discussions on Arts Education Advocacy (21 July & 24 August 2019). Updating participants on proposed arts education policies in the pipeline, discussing the needs of arts educators and practitioners, and generating dialogue on how practitioners can collectively contribute to and influence arts education reform.
