Inspired by the purported hauntings along the Vale of Tempe (Lembah Permai) in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, this monologue presents the story of 26 year-old factory worker Salbiah and her tragic relationship with her policeman boyfriend.
Created by young theatre maker Noor Rizuwan through a mix of news reports, popular anecdotes, and imagined scenarios, this conflation of fact and myth slowly unveils and speculates on what could have been behind this popular urban legend.
Fragrance (Wangian) was developed from Bercakap Dengan Salbiah (2016), presented as part of Reka Art Space’s Initiate.Develop.Perform incubator programme in Penang. In 2017, it was turned into a full-length script and staged under the Wayang di SINKEH programme at SINKEH Studio.
