Set in early twentieth-century Singapore, Stella Kon’s award-winning monodrama Emily of Emerald Hill is one of Southeast Asia’s most performed and loved play.
Emily of Emerald Hill tells the story of the matriarch of an affluent Peranakan family, moving backwards and forwards through time. We watch Emily triumph and fall, and witness the bitter irony of how her love leads to her son's suicide and her husband's estrangement.
Directed by co-founding member of Five Arts Centre, Chin San Sooi, this production featured the respected and much acclaimed actress Pearlly Chua, who had performed Emily over 160 times.
